Doc Baker's reputation is damaged to the point that residents of Walnut Grove begin leaving town for medical care and he decides to move away. He cleverly disguised himself so that no one knew it was him who did the crime. As the weeks passed, he hired a 17-year-old boy named Albert Ingalls (to whom Sylvia was engaged). Continuing to stalk Sylvia, Albert unwittingly told Hartwig where to find her, tracking her down to an old abandoned house miles from Walnut Grove. When Hartwig finally found her, he chased the frightened youngster up a ladder, causing her to fall and fatally injuring her. Many citizens have presumed he collapsed and died later on, while others have presumed he fled to Mexico. After his mother died in 1871, he was subsequently adopted by the Edwards family.

Before he became America’s favorite father figure, Michael Landon lit up the screen as Little Joe Cartwright on Bonanza. The year Bonanza ended, Landon signed on to the Little House series. Not only did he play Pa, he wrote, directed and executive produced the show. After Little House, Landon went on to star as a probationary angel in yet another hit show, Highway to Heaven. He continued to act, write, produce and direct until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1991. Sadly, Landon lost his cancer battle and died at the age of 54, less than three months after he was diagnosed.

On the Banks of Plum Creek is the fourth book written by Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Little House book series. Charles Ingalls is the husband of Caroline Ingalls and the father of Mary, Laura, Carrie, Charles Jr. and Grace; as well as the adoptive father of Albert Quinn, and James and Cassandra Cooper. Little House explored many different themes including frequently portrayed ones of adoption, alcoholism, faith, poverty, blindness, and prejudice of all types, including racism. Some plots also include subjects such as drug addiction (e.g. Albert's addiction to morphine), leukemia, child abuse, animal abuse, and even rape. Although predominantly a drama, the program has many lighthearted and comedic moments, as well. In ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ Ma spends most of her time with her children while Pa works on navigating their wagon and finding them somewhere new to live.
At his trial, there are several surprising developments, including Andy's confession about leaving the lamp by the barn on a windy night, which prompts the judge to throw out the barn burning charge. He still finds Larabee guilty of assault and instead of any additional jail time, he orders Larabee to recompense Jonathan for the value of his lost wheat crop. Larabee's wife, as a result of his hatred of many people, takes their sons and leaves him. When she learns that a German student, Erich Schiller, beat Nellie in the school spelling bee, Mrs. Oleson claims that the lad's German immigrant parents are illiterate. Charles confronts Murdoch about his newspaper, but his complaints fall on deaf ears.

When Walnut Grove went bankrupt in 1875, he and the family moved to Winoka, but later returned to Walnut Grove as quickly as they had left. A new family, the Carters (Stan Ivar as John, Pamela Roylance as Sarah, Lindsay Kennedy as older son Jeb, and David Friedman as younger son Jason), move into the Ingalls house. It was left to the recovering Alden to finally set Caleb straight. A hard-working man who came to Walnut Grove in 1875 to assist the Ingalls during the town's hardships. Like Isaiah Edwards, he was one of Walnut Grove's finest lumbermen. After his wife's death in a fire in 1876, Jonathan and Andy struggled hard for nearly nine years without Alice, but to no avail.

The Carters, including their sons Jeb and Jason, adjust to life in Walnut Grove, but Jenny has a hard time doing so after her father dies. She blames herself and Laura for her father's death, saying that she should have been told that he was ill. After Reverend Alden assures her that she will see her parents again in heaven, Jenny tries to drown herself to join them, but Jeb conquers his fear of water and dives in and saves her. Then Laura teaches Jenny a 'tough love' lesson on the importance of life, as Charles had done for her. Then an obesely overweight boy, Elmer, joins the school and is teased by his classmates, but he is a bright student and Nancy exploits his attraction to her.
When he became exhausted and near-suicidal, Charles Ingalls looked after Kagan for a few short months to set him straight and get his strength back by working for Mr. Hanson's Mill. When Kagan finally regained his strength, he returned to Sleepy Eye only to find his own grown son Tim had followed in his father's footsteps. When Kagan confronted his son (whom he had not seen in years) in a boxing match, he defeated him, but in the process taught Tim, there were more important things in life than fighting.
